GREENPORT, New York — Welcome to Greenport, Long Island, a great spot for a summer vacation. This Long Island village features delicious restaurants, family-friendly hotels, fun shops and local destinations to explore.

Downtown Greenport offers a variety of restaurants and bakeries. Lucharitos serves spicy Mexican food and features colorful paintings and Mexican wrestling masks on the walls. Enjoy cookies, cakes and fresh pastries at the Blue Duck Cafe. My parents loved the freshly roasted coffee at Aldo’s. I met Aldo, and he showed me how to roast the beans.

There is a carousel where you can win a golden ring and get a free ride. For shopping, Greenport has clothing stores, art galleries and gift shops. A great place called Land Shark offered sweatshirts, magnets, ornaments and other Greenport-themed merchandise.

The Cliffside Resort provided a two-bedroom apartment with a balcony, access to a pool and the beach on the Long Island Sound. The hotel also has special events such as movie night on the lawn and yoga on the beach.

From Greenport, vacationers can take a ferry to Shelter Island. On Shelter Island visit the Ram’s Head Inn for yummy burgers, lawn games, a hammock and a tree swing. After that, head to  Southold to pick blueberries and raspberries.
