SOOP Theatre Company, a Pelham staple for the last ten years, announced their new 2019/2020 season and it is an ambitious one!  Besides their usual fare for students, this year CHICAGO High School Edition (grades 9 – 12) and THE WIZARD OF OZ (grades 3 – 8), SOOP has added to its professional roster productions of VANITIES THE MUSICAL, LOVE LETTERS (starring Christine Pedi, John Treacy Egan, Nellie O’Brien and Paul Romanello), Arthur Miller’s A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE and the U.S. premiere of the Ken Kwek critically acclaimed THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS TO PRETTY GIRLS.  Additionally, there will be the SOOP TO NUTS playwriting festival and two holiday TYA performances – A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS and THE ADVENTURES OF PETER COTTONTAIL, bringing a full season of theatrical experiences for all ages to the Pelham community.

“We wanted to really hit the ground running”, Artistic Director Paul Romanello stated, “we began in 1998 in NYC, but pushed our professional presence to the back burner for a while and began again in Pelham ten years ago with programs for kids.  We had a couple of professional presentations at the Manor Club (home for the last ten years), but now that we’re in our own space we wanted to make a statement of commitment to SOOP being a true regional alternative to Westchester theatre in our home town of Pelham.”  Romanello went on to say that the season is very diversified, capturing various styles and concepts that round out their mission.  ‘We have a little something for everyone!”, he said jokingly, “besides the kids programs, which have grown, we now get to give some attention to local authors; we have something to offer our young professional alums, who are out treading the boards; we get to feature something more topical and controversial and we get to throw a classic American playwright in the mix!  All in all, a days work well done – we hope!”

SOOP’s season begins with their OPENING NIGHT Gala on 10/5 at 7pm, with their first production of CHICAGO High School Edition running from 10/17 – 27 at The 530 Studios, 530 Fifth Ave, Pelham.  For tickets and detailed info on all their shows and programs, go to sooptheatre.org
