Pelham Memorial High School students braved air temperatures in the thirties and Long Island Sound temperatures in the Brrrr! range by plunging Saturday into the sea at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle. This polar bear-like behavior was to raise funds for a good cause. That they did, collecting a total of $5,606 for getting that frozen feeling during the Polar Plunge to support the Special Olympics.
The Special Olympics has 68,547 athletes training and competing year-round in 22 Olympics-style sports. It costs $400 to support training and competition for one athlete for one sports season.
