Halfway through season, PMHS boys’ swim team looks to finish strong
It’s a tough act to follow. After the girls’ swim team sent three athletes off to states, the boys swim team is looking to follow with an equally impressive campaign. Already sitting with four wins and one loss, the team is looking to continue their winning ways throughout the rest of the regular season and into the postseason.
The team is headlined by several top-level athletes, including juniors Dylan Nordstrom and Lance Brady and sophomore Chris Hartigan. According to the mid-season report, published on December 30, Nordstrom ranks in the top 50 in 4 different events, while Brady and Hartigan each rank in the top 50 in two events. Pelham also has a top 20 ranking in two relays, the 400 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay.
Other regular contributors include juniors Nicholas Tiso, Matthew Tiso, Henry Gutch and Charles Pedorella, as well as freshman Jack Tirsch.
So far, the team has racked up several major wins. Two of the wins were by margins of more than 20 points, and all four wins came with a more than 10 point margin. The team’s one loss, against Harrison, came by a 9 point margin, with the Pelicans down Peter Fontanella and Thomas Fontanella. Both boys have put up productive numbers so far this season. The match was closely fought, tied for a while until Harrison managed to pull away. Pelham valiantly tried until the end, but ultimately fell.
Finishing up the regular season, the Pelicans will face off against Yorktown and Peekskill in the coming weeks. They will then move on to the Conference Championship, followed by the Section Championship, and hopefully some move on to the New York State Championship.
