Pelham Girl Scouts hold Second Annual Pinewood Derby Day

Editor’s note: This press release was provided by the Girls Scouts of Pelham.

On Saturday, the Girl Scouts of Pelham came together to again celebrate what had been one of the Cub Scouts’ longest-running traditions. The 2nd Annual Girl Scout Pinewood Derby was put on by Alyssa-Lynn Catalanotto of Troop 1655 and her mother, Toni-Lynn, the troop leader.

Just as last year, each girl built and designed her car to compete against the others. With a track loaned by the Cut Scouts, the girl races at the Community Church of the Pelhams from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. New to this year’s derby was the addition of a troop leader’s race, where troop leaders designed their own cars and raced against each other for a trophy.

Among the girls, Sofia Seifert (Troop 2369) came in first place. Zella (Troop 1561) took second, and Addison Keating (Troop 2612) came in third. Toni-Lynn Catalanotto was the winner in the leader’s division.

“Special thanks to William Hopkins (Boy Scout Troop 1), Nathan Pereira (Cub Scout Pack 4), David Sparano (Cub Scout Pack 4), Mark Kindig (Girl Scout leader), Patrick Sheils, Alfred Catalanotto, Jen Ashlock (Girl Scout leader), Stephanie Otero (Girl Scout leader) and the Pelham Community Church,” said Catalanotto. “Without the names above this Girl Scout race would never have happened. They all chipped in and made magic happen! Thank you to all the parents, Girl Scouts and troop leaders for making this a fun Second Annual Pelham Girl Scout derby day! All cars had their own unique artistic talent.”
