Andrew Spana and Patrick PJ Shiels achieve Eagle Scout at Troop 1 Pelham

Editor’s note: This press release was provided by Troop 1 Pelham.

On January 11, 2019 at the Daronco Town House, Troop 1 Pelham conducted a Court of Honor to recognize Andrew Spana and Patrick “PJ” Shiels for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. They completed the requirements of earning 21 or more merit badges, mentoring younger scouts, and performing leadership projects to make them eligible for this honor. Andrew and PJ have been members of Troop 1 since middle school and have participated in high adventure trips to the Florida Keys and Philmont, NM. They join a long line of Pelham Troop 1 scouts achieving Eagle Scout, scouting’s highest rank.

Andrew’s Eagle Scout project involved numerous renovations to improve the interior and exterior facilities at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. He was grateful to perform work at his parish under the direction of Rev. Robert DeJulio. PJ’s Eagle Scout project consisted of cataloging many original Tiffany glass windows at Woodlawn Cemetery to facilitate restoration efforts, coordinated by Mrs. Susan Olsen, Director of Historical Services, Woodlawn Conservancy. Both project beneficiaries were pleased with these service contributions and impressed with the scouts’ leadership.

Andrew and PJ wish to thank their Scoutmasters Mr. Ralph Mirra and Mr. Bill Hopkins, Eagle Committee Chairs Ms. Prudy Lenhard and Mr. John Pachuta, and their scout leaders for the support and guidance throughout their scouting journey. They also appreciated the help from scouts, friends, family, and community members who volunteered their time for their projects over the summer.

Proclamations were presented by NYS Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, Pelham Town Councilman Tim Case, on behalf of Town Supervisor Peter DiPaola, Pelham Manor Mayor Jennifer Monachino Lapey, Pelham Mayor Mike Volpe, Pelham Town Justice John Gardner, American Legion Pelham Post 50 Commander Robert Sweeney, and Director of the Westchester County Department of Consumer ProtectionJim Maisano.
