Wow: Sneak peek benefit performance of PMHS’s ‘Mamma Mia’ amazes
Mamma Mia! Here we go again! The Pelham Memorial High School’s spring production of “Mamma Mia” premieres Friday at 7 p.m., with shows following Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
I got a sneak peak of this musical Thursday night and WOW! I was so amazed by the performance. For the sneak peek, all of the funds will go towards a scholarship in the name of David Pentz, which will be given to a PMHS senior.
While the featured performances will take place over the weekend, the Thursday night preview was new for the cast. According to senior Jack Hopkins, “Getting the chance to do a Thursday performance was very beneficial to the entire cast.”
Freshman Malia McLellan plays the role of Sophie, the 20 year old who is getting married on an island in Greece and secretly invites three men from her mother’s past in hoping of meeting her father. McLellan has a beautiful voice and gave an outstanding performance. She truly developed into her character.
Sam Rodd as Sam Carmichael, Jack Hopkins as Harry Bright and Charlie Pedorella as Bill Austin all had strong performances as confused past lovers of Donna and potential fathers of Sophie.
Donna and the Dynamos were on fire. With Maggie Solimine as Donna, Meredith Heller as Tanya and Athena Woodfin as Rosie, this trio was hilarious and talented.
Jack Finegan as Sky, Lance Brady as Pepper and Bennett Safsel as Eddie all also had spectacular turns that contributed to the show. The talent of the ensemble was amazing.
There is nothing but great things to say about this musical. It was lively, mood lifting and lots of fun. Don’t miss out on a trip to the festive Greek Islands. I would highly recommend purchasing tickets for this musical before it sells out.
