Kate Douglass breaks records at Speedo Sectionals
PMHS senior Kate Douglass set personal best records during the 2019 Speedo Sectionals held in Ithaca, New York, from March 28-31.
Douglass swam the 50 free, in which she shaved off a significant amount from her old 21.89 record. She came in at 21.73 in the prelims, and then swam her new best time of 21.67. This time would have placed her 8th at the NCAA Women’s Championships.
Douglass’s time competing at the finals ranks her No. 3 in the United States All Time Top Performers in the 50 free in the 17-18 year old age group, behind Olympians Simone Manuel and Abbey Weitzeil. Her time was the fastest swam in this age group since Manuel in 2015.
Douglass will swim for UVA in the fall, alongside fellow PMHS senior and diver Jen Bell.
