Richard Walker Kingsbury – May 25

Richard Walker Kingsbury of Pelham, died on Sunday, May 25, 2019 at Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital following a brief illness.  He was 94.

Richard, son of Francis Bullard Kingsbury and Katharine Whitney Kingsbury, grew up in Pelham attending Pelham Memorial High School.  He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the U.S.S. Texas in the battles of Normandy and Cherbourg, and the Pacific.  Following the war, he married his beloved wife, Helen Stone Kingsbury.  Richard graduated from New York University and pursued a career in accounting.

A devout member of Huguenot Memorial Church for many years, Richard served as deacon, elder and trustee.  He was a devoted father, and a very active community member in the town having served on the Republican Committee and as a member of the Rotary Club.  Richard was well known in town for his kindness and generosity to friends and neighbors.

Richard enjoyed summers at his family’s estate, the Bullard Memorial Farm, spending time with relatives and at the beach at Cape Cod at the family summer home.

Preceded in death by Helen S. Kingsbury, his wife of 60 years, and daughter, Elizabeth K. Ferencz, Richard is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Cristofaro, her husband Joseph Cristofaro, M.D., niece, Judith Bogardus Hess (Mark); son-in-law John P. Ferencz; grandchildren Alexander W. Cristofaro (Chinmoyee); Jesse J. Cristofaro; Matthew K. Ferencz; Gwyneth E. McKay (Jonathan); and Christopher R. Hess (Maureen).

A private family service will be held on June 8.
