Athletes of the Week made big contributions to PMHS rugby’s state championship

Editor’s note: the following press release was provided by Pelham Public Schools.

Seniors Jeremy Camiguel and Nick Lapponese and juniors Sean O’Brien and Ajdin Pelinkovic were named PMHS Athletes of the Week for their roles in helping the rugby team win its third state championship. In the semifinal against Syracuse, Pelinkovic made numerous tackles defending the goal line and gained many yards through the heart of the defense. In the same game, O’Brien led the scrum to a dominant performance. In lineouts he was a fantastic lifter helping secure lineout balls.

In the championship game against Rye, Lapponese, a captain, led from the front the entire game, stealing several throws from the opponent’s lineouts and was a dominant force on defense. He also scored two tries in the victory. Camiguel continued his great defense that he has displayed all season, blasting opposition players in rucks, and securing the ball for Pelham all game. His hard work stopped several Rye scoring chances on the goal line.
