Officials from the Village of Pelham Manor held “a productive meeting” Tuesday with representatives from the New York State Department of Transportation Traffic Safety and Mobility Unit on the safety of pedestrians crossing the Boston Post Road, according to a village press release.

Pelham Manor agreed to “write another letter restating and reinforcing our previous oral and written requests to have a pedestrian signal installed at the intersection of Boston Post Road and Esplanade, emphasizing that this is part of a preferred pedestrian route to the high school/middle school complex,” the release said.

“We reiterated the importance of this issue and solicited their thoughts and recommendations on the matter,” Pelham Manor said. “We provided the DOT with our previously written request for a pedestrian signal and the relevant accident data developed by our police department.”

The DOT staffers agreed to formally respond after they reviewed the matter with other DOT personnel and developed an action plan, the release said.

The village said it will continue to explore other alternatives after receiving DOT’s formal response. The Pelham Manor Board of Trustees will provide a more complete review of the issue at its July 22 meeting.

Cathy Draper from Assemblywoman Amy Paulin’s office and Maryann Joyce from State Sen. Alessandra Biaggi’s office were also at the meeting, the release said.
