Village police departments issue warnings on heat wave; Town House to serve as cooling center on request

Editor’s note: This announcement was provided by the Pelham Police Department.

The National Weather Service has issued a weather alert for a heat wave threat mid-week through the weekend. Friday and Saturday max heat indices of 100-105 F are expected in our area.  The heat and humidity causes potential hazards and may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure. Extreme heat can cause illness and death among our at-risk population who cannot stay cool. Seniors, infants, and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk from the heat. Please remember to stay hydrated and check on vulnerable family, friends and neighbors to make sure they stay safe and cool.

The Town of Pelham will provide a cooling center at the Pelham Town House, 20 Fifth Avenue, upon request.  Please contact the Pelham Police Department for cooling center assistance at (914) 738-2000.

In the event of a power outage please contact Con-Edison at 1-800-752-6633, the Pelham Police Department at (914) 738-2000 or 911 for emergencies.
