Snapshot: Pelham Venture Crew’s 11 days in Philmont Scout Ranch included white water, tomahawks and mountain lions
This summer, Venture Crew 42 of Pelham did an incredible high adventure trip. Venturing is the older, coed, part of Boy Scouts. Crew 42, composed of PMHS, and Somers students, traveled to New Mexico and did an 11 day backpacking trip through Philmont Scout Ranch. Scouts camped, hiked, shot pistols and shotguns, threw lariats and tomahawks and climbed a 12,500 foot mountain. The Crew crossed rivers, hiked with mountain lions, rafted down white water rivers and had an incredible time.
Last year Venture Crew 42 camped on Block Island and the Norwalk Islands, kayaked Long Island Sound, camped, backpacked, snowshoed and hiked last year.

I am somewhat pleasantly surprised to see that the younger generation is getting an education using pistols and shotguns. There was a time where the high schools had rifle clubs. Learning how to handle and respect weapons will take away the mystery and mystique that the liberal part of the country like to attach.
How did you get the mountain lions to hike with you? Hope that the trip went well.
