Pelham Kindergarten registration Jan. 28 and 29; letter outlines all details

Editor’s note: This letter from Dr. Steven Garcia, assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction & personnel, was provided by the Pelham (Union Free) School District.

Dear Parents:

Kindergarten registration for the Pelham Class of 2033 will be held on Tuesday, January 28 & Wednesday, January 29, 2020. Your child is eligible to attend kindergarten next year if he or she will be five years old on or before December 31, 2020.

If you are planning to register your child to attend kindergarten for the 2020-2021 academic school year, you are invited to do so at this event.  Our Central Office Registrar and one of our school nurses will be on hand to accept your completed registration forms and provide the necessary information needed to successfully register your child.  It is not necessary for you to bring your child with you to the registration.

It is essential that all parents/guardians attend the registration IN PERSON, present the completed registration forms and bring all ORIGINAL documents with them. Please note that some forms must be notarized.  In order to avoid delays in your child’s registration, please be sure to have them notarized prior to your registration date.  Registration forms received by mail will not be accepted.

All registration forms can be found on our district website, click on the PARENTS & COMMUNITY tab and then REGISTRATION OF STUDENTS tab.  Hard copies of all forms can be obtained from the Central Office as well.  Please be sure to complete all of the appropriate health forms.  In accordance with New York State Law, children entering public schools must be immunized.

Registration will take place in Alumni Hall, located on the ground floor of Pelham Memorial High School.  Any parent/guardian who cannot be present on their designated day may make an appointment with our Registrar, Charisse Donnadio, at (914) 738-3434 ext. 1211.  Unless prior arrangements are made, exceptions will not be made to the following schedule:

Please use the entrance to Pelham Memorial High School at 575 Colonial Avenue.  Parking is available on Nyac and Corlies avenues, north of Boulevard only.  We suggest car-pooling if possible.  DO NOT PARK in any of the numbered spots dedicated to the professional staff in our parking lots or in the reserved permit parking spaces on the street.  Please observe all street regulations as vehicles will be ticketed if parked illegally.

Our instructional staff will be available to discuss the kindergarten program in May.  In addition, you and your child will be invited, by appointment, to visit your designated school.  The kindergarten teachers will spend some time with your child observing his/her interaction and completing a preliminary screening.  A more in-depth screening by the speech/language, resource room, and kindergarten teachers will be done in September when youngsters are more familiar with school.

On behalf of the Pelham Union Free School District, please accept our heartiest welcome!  If you have any questions, please call (914) 738-3434 x1211.  I wish you and your child every success in the years ahead.
