Rotary Scholars of the Month in January: Julia O’Neil and Griffin Kingsley

PMHS seniors Julia O’Neil and Griffin Kingsley were recognized as Marilyn Stiefvater Scholars of the Month in January by the Rotary Club of the Pelhams.

Julia O’Neil, who plans to attend Duke University this fall, is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Math, English, Spanish, Science and Social Studies honor societies. She was awarded 3rd place in Behaviorial Science in the 2019 WESEF Science Research Competition and 1st place in Computer Science in the 2918 Westlake Science Research Competition. Julia’s extracurricular activities include Women’s Empowerment Club, Math Team, Young Democrats Club, Science Research Club and Astronomy Club.She is a member of the Community Cares Center Youth Board and the Unified Basketball Team Committee.

Griffin Kingsley plans to attend Rice University in the fall. He is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Italian and Science honor societies. His extracurricular activities have included Biology Club, Chemistry Club, stage crew for student theater productions and participation in a school trip to Italy. He has participated in the Club Varsity program of the Pelham Community Rowing Association, and his team has won gold and bronze awards during his high school career.

In addition to recognizing two PMHS students as Scholars of the Month during the school year, Rotary Club of the Pelhams awards a $10,000 scholarship to a graduating PMHS senior annually. Funds for the scholarship are collected from donations by community members and Rotarians. Tax deductible donations made payable to Pelham Rotary Charities Fund  with the memo “scholarship” may be mailed at any time of the year to Rotary, PO Bo 8073, Pelham, NY 10803.
