Incumbent Trustee Bennett, Zoning Board Member Owen-Michaane are GOP candidates for Pelham Manor village board

Incumbent Pelham Manor Trustee Breda Bennett and current Pelham Manor Zoning Board Member, Maurice Owen-Michaane, are the official nominees of the Neighborhood Party and Republican Party, and will stand for election on those two party lines for the 2020 Village of Pelham Manor Trustee Elections on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.

Breda and Maurice plan to focus on several core issues, including: Fiscal Responsibility; Public Safety and Quality of Life; Environmental Leadership; Retaining and Improving Best-In-Class Service Departments; Efficiency and Transparency in Local Government; and Welcoming Diversity.

Bio for Bridget (Breda) Bennett

Breda was born and raised in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx, where she attended St. Barnabas Grammar and High Schools. Breda then attended Lehman College, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Education and Corporate Training and her Master’s Degree in Education. After graduation, she taught at Career Blazers Learning Center in NYC and rose to the position of Director of Education. After having her first child, Breda accepted an adjunct position at Lehman College teaching in the Secondary Education Department. Breda then moved to Westchester Community College where she taught classes in the Business Department. Years later, she turned her focus to working with her husband Tom on their family-owned home building business.

Breda and Tom moved to Pelham Manor in 1987 and have since raised their six children here. Her children have all gone through the Pelham Schools attending Prospect Hill, the Middle School and High School. They have been active and involved in many of Pelham’s school and recreation activities, playing soccer, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, tennis, rugby and golf to mention a few.

Besides running the family-owned business and raising her family, Breda has also been an active member of the Pelham community. She began her volunteerism with PACT, serving with that board for five years. She then served as a Prospect Hill Site Based Council member for four years and was a Girl Scout leader for five years. Breda also served on the Little League Board for 12 years including five of those years as Treasurer and Vice President. Breda also served on the Pelham Recreation Commission for 14 years and held the position of Chair for two of those years. With Pelham Rec, she is most proud of being instrumental in starting the recreational basketball league, which now has approximately 500 boys and girls playing basketball during the winter months. Breda is currently the co-president of the Pelham Booster Club, a board she has been on for the past seven years and serving as the treasurer for four of them. In 2018 Breda was honored to be elected as a Trustee for the Village of Pelham Manor, where she is presently delighted to be working with the Mayor and her fellow trustees on many village initiatives.

Breda is a great support of Pelham and its youth with a strong emphasis and belief in promoting sport and activities for all of Pelham’s children. Through her hard work she has made a significant impact in the Pelham community.

Bio for Maurice Owen-Michaane

Maurice Owen-Michaane is a lifelong New Yorker, who moved to Pelham Manor with his husband and children in 2016. Maurice is the Broker/Owner of the highly successful real estate firm, Capital Realty NY, focusing on residential real estate in Pelham, greater Westchester County and New York City.

He attended Hamilton College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Government. After graduation Maurice spent 2yrs as a Legal Assistant at the prestigious law firm of Skadden, Arps. Maurice then moved into the world of Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs, working in Financial Institutions Group. He then decided to pursue his MBA, graduating with a Finance degree from the Full Time Honors Program at the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College. While awaiting to start his MBA program in 2008, Maurice earned his residential real estate license, and has been in the industry since.

Maurice has been deeply involved in the Pelham community from day one. Maurice is a current Member of the Pelham Manor Zoning Board. In addition, as a Proud Eagle Scout, he is a Siwanoy Cub Scout Pack 4 Leader. Maurice is also heavily involved in the Pelham Civics Association, including on the Dinner/Dance Committee and the Good Neighbor Committee. Maurice has also had the privilege of coaching his oldest son, as Assistant Coach on the Pelham Flag Football & Little League teams. Maurice is an active member and volunteer with the Siwanoy PTA as well.

Outside of his Pelham activities, Maurice currently serves as a Director on the Board for the NYS Association of Realtors, as a Director for the Hudson Gateway Association of Realtors & MLS, and is the Alumni Class President of his Hamilton graduating class. Maurice is the proud father of 3, Caleb, Abigail & Jacob. Maurice brings a deep sense of finances, communications and community service as a Candidate for Pelham Manor Trustee, and looks forward to maintaining and improving upon the good government that has been created by those before him.
