Editor’s note: This press release was provided by the Village of Pelham.

In a proactive effort to prevent further spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) to our most vulnerable residents, the Senior Citizens Board along with the Town Of Pelham Board and the Town Recreation Department have decided to suspend all Senior Citizen’s Program for the next 14 days.

The risk to most New Yorkers remains low. Senior citizens and those with pre-existing medical conditions continue to be our most at-risk neighbors. The CDC advises those who are most at-risk to stay home when possible and avoid in-person interactions with large groups of people.

For those who may need to stay home, De Cicco & Sons will be offering Pelham residents a discounted delivery rate of only $5. You may call the Pelham store at 914-738-1377 and let them know you would like to place a phone order. This service will be available Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm. Deliveries can be ordered on their website (www.deciccos.com) as well, 7 days a week from 8am through 8pm, by clicking “DeCicco’s Delivery” in the upper right hand corner.

There are simple steps all of us can take to prevent further spread of COVID-19 and other viruses:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

The Village of Pelham continues to work closely with Town officials, school leadership and Pelham Manor officials to monitor this situation. We will provide more information as it becomes available. If you have questions about COVID-19, the New York State Department of Health has set up a hotline at (888) 364-3065 where DOH experts will be available to answer any questions you may have.
