Evelyn Cottrell – May 22

After a long battle, Evelyn Cottrell passed away peacefully at her home in Pelham on Friday May 22nd 2020. She was 87 years old. Born and raised in Yonkers, New York, to Joseph and Mary Jansky, Evelyn was one of three children. She attended local schools before eventually graduating Commerce High School in Yonkers. Upon graduation Evelyn would begin her life long career at Prudential Insurance. In her spare time she would take care of her mom, and any person or animal in need. She enjoyed needlepoint, knitting, crocheting and cooking. It was her love for cooking that would win the heart of George Cottrell. As the saying goes “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach,” and Evelyn and George would marry at the Church of Christ the King in Yonkers in the fall of 1988.

Evelyn and George retired shortly after their wedding and moved to Manahawkin, NJ in 1988. They lived by the water where the couple enjoyed fishing and boating together. They thoroughly enjoyed taking care of their animals, giving back to charity, feeding the ducks, but most of all they enjoyed family.

Evelyn will be remembered as a kind, compassionate and generous lady. She had a great sense of humor and loved to entertain.

Evelyn is survived by her husband George, her children Kathleen Hecker (Richard), George Cottrell and Maureen Borsella (Anthony). She will be missed by her grandchildren; Tara, Brian, Anthony, Kristen, her 5 great-grandchildren, her nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her grand-daughter Julianne Borsella and her loving nephew Jimmy Reagan.

A private celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at the Pelham Funeral Home. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Yonkers. For more information or to leave a condolence please visit www.pelhamfuneral.com
