Couches and TVs dragged to backyards, into driveways for music: PelhamCouchFest was on, and it raised $70,489

Editor’s note: This press release was provided by PelhamCouchFest.

Couches and TVs were moved to backyards and driveways.  Families gathered ‘round.  Saturday, May 30, 2020, at 7:05 pm, Pelham gathered, socially-distant and apart, but very much together to view PelhamCouchFest, a live-streamed, music, fund-raising event supporting many of Pelham’s nonprofit organizations.  Thanks to the generosity of the people of Pelham, the event raised $70,489.  “Our portion of the proceeds will buy a lot of food for those in need,” declared, Missy Palmisciano, President and Founder of County Harvest.

PelhamCouchFest, livestream powered by Meridian, was the brainchild of civic-minded Pelham residents Kara McLoughlin and Louise Kelly, who wanted to find a way to support the town’s nonprofits, which have cancelled fundraisers while expanding and offering new, innovative programming to serve their communities during the pandemic.  Local musicians (the lineup of performers can be obtained here) donated their time and talent, playing covers and original songs.  Stephen Byfield, DJ and VJ, produced the livestream which was carried on the PelhamCouchFest YouTube channel.

“I was nothing short of amazed – amazed AND proud, of how our community stepped up to help during CouchFest. From the talent to the giving, the event showed just how caring and supportive Pelham is. A huge thank you to Louise and Kara for pulling together such a great event. Both Meridian Risk and Meridian Realty Consultants were happy to help power the live stream and will always support the non-profit organizations that are so vital to our community,” remarked, Founder and President of Meridian Risk Management, Joe Solimine, Jr.

Beneficiaries of the event include: Pelham Together, Junior League of Pelham, The Picture House, Friends of the Town of Pelham Public Library, Pelham Art Center, Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum, Pelham Children’s Center, and County Harvest.

“The Junior League of Pelham is so very grateful to have been a beneficiary of Pelham CouchFest. In addition to funneling significant funds back into our community’s beloved non-profits, Kara and Louise’s vision gave us all a sense of connectivity, togetherness, and optimism at a time when it’s needed the most,” concluded out-going Junior League of Pelham President, Lisa Horten.
