Pelham school voters now have until June 16 for their mailed ballots to be delivered by the post office to the school district, an extension announced today by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Ballots can also be hand delivered through 5 p.m. on June 9, the original deadline for all ballots.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has changed our world, and while we are making great progress and the numbers keep going down, no New Yorker should have to choose between their health and their right to vote,” Cuomo said.

School districts—though not Pelham—as well as state legislators had complained districts didn’t have enough time to produce and mail the ballots to voters.

Last week, the New Rochelle Chapter of the NAACP called on the New Rochelle Board of Education to insure the voting rights of residents in the upcoming school election, stating “ballots have not been delivered.”
