Pelham Fire Department puts out fire at Benedict Avenue house Wednesday; all residents safe

The Pelham Fire Department fought a blaze on Benedict Avenue.

The Village of Pelham Fire Department extinguished a blaze on the second floor of a Benedict Avenue house Wednesday morning, reporting no injuries from the one-room fire.

A “quick-thinking resident” shut the door to the burning room prior to leaving and this helped contain the blaze, the department said.

Pelham Engine 5 and Ladder 2 were dispatched at about 8:40 a.m.

“Engine 5 stretched a line and located the fire,” the department said. “The fire was knocked down within 10 minutes of arrival and a primary search of the fire room was completed.”

Also responding were departments from New Rochelle and Eastchester, while the Pelham Manor Fire Department was on standby to cover the village. Empress Emergency Medical Services and 38Medic1 were also on hand. The Village of Pelham Police Department provided traffic control.
