Pelham, NY (September 15, 2020) – On Saturday, October 3rd from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Hearts & Homes for Refugees (https://www.heartsandhomesforrefugees.org) will partner with fellow Westchester Refugee Initiative (WRI) member Neighbors for Refugees to host their third annual Winter Coat & Boot Drive at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 4 Fountain Square, Larchmont, NY. Hearts & Homes for Refugees is Westchester’s leading grassroots humanitarian organization partnering with U.S. State Department-designated agencies to welcome, assist and advocate for refugees.

Donors are asked to bring clean winter coats and boots in good condition and/or Target or Burlington gift cards to the drive. All donations will be distributed to refugee and asylee families in Westchester and the tri-state area.

“In 2019 we were able to provide winter coats and boots to over 450 refugees,” said Kathie O’Callaghan, president and founder of Hearts & Homes for Refugees. “This year, we hope to reach even more families, many of whom are facing extra hardships due to the ongoing pandemic.”

In addition to donations, Hearts & Homes for Refugees is looking for volunteers to help with the drive. If interested in volunteering, they are looking for people on Saturday, October 3rd to receive and sort, Sunday, October 4th for packing, and Monday, October 5th for deliveries. To volunteer, please contact Ruth Gyure at [email protected]. Social distancing and COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed.
