Nicholas Joseph DeLillo – Oct. 7

Nicholas Joseph DeLillo, Ph.D., a resident of Pelham Manor, NY for nearly 50 years, died on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY. He was 81.

Dr. DeLillo was a Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science for 50 years at Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY until his retirement in 2013. He concurrently served as a professor and educator at Iona College, New Rochelle, NY, Pace University, White Plains, NY, and Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, NY, during his 50-year career in academia. Dr. DeLillo was also an industry lecturer and author of numerous scholarly articles and published academic references, including Advanced Calculus with Applications, 1982, Computability with Pascal (co-author), 1984, A First Course in Computer Science with Ada, 1993, Object-Orientated Design in C++ Using the Standard Template Library, 2002, Object-Orientated Design in Java Using java.util, 2004, and Data Structures Using Java 5.0, 2006. Dr. DeLillo was also a member of the Pelham Civic Association and served as a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Pelham Manor, NY.

Dr. DeLillo was born on July 14, 1939 in the Bronx, NY to Rocco DeLillo and Anna DeLillo. He graduated high school from Mount Saint Michael Academy, Bronx, NY in 1957. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honor, and class valedictorian, from Manhattan College, Riverdale, NY in 1960. He earned a Master of Science degree from Fordham University, Bronx, NY in 1963. He later earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from New York University, New York, NY in 1971.

On June 25, 1966 he married Rosalie A. DeLillo at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bronx, NY. He was a widower at the time of his death. He is survived by his sons Rocco, Anthony, and his wife Patrizia, Nicholas Jr., and his wife Vivian, and Lorenzo, and his eight grandchildren Nicholas, Michela, Giovanna, Marcello, Anna, Rosa, Alexander, and Daniela.

A celebration of Nicholas’s life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Ave, Pelham, NY on Monday October 12th from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual help Church located at 575 Fowler Avenue, Pelham Manor, NY on Tuesday October 13th at 10:00 am. Internment will follow the mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
