Picture House plans reopening date following green light from Cuomo

The Picture House is preparing to reopen following Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s announcement that movie theaters outside New York City can begin operating on Friday.

Pelham’s non-profit cinema doesn’t yet have a date to open its doors as “we have to make sure that we follow all the guidelines and go above and beyond so we can welcome everyone back as safely as possible,” said a spokeswoman.

“The Picture House Regional Film Center was thrilled with Gov. Cuomo’s announcement over the weekend allowing movie theaters in our region to reopen,” said Laura deBuys, president and executive director of The Picture House Regional Film Center. “Over the past few months we’ve been working to prepare our theater for reopening and are now just awaiting the specific details from the state so we can exceed expectations and ensure that our audience feels 100% percent comfortable and completely safe when they return.”

According to a statement from Cuomo’s office, “Theaters can reopen at 25% capacity with up to 50% per screen. Theaters outside of New York City in counties that have Covid-19 positivity rates of less than 2 percent on a 14-day average, and that do not have any cluster zones, are permitted to open.”
