Village of Pelham wins Platinum Award in AAA’s annual traffic safety program

The Village of Pelham has won a Platinum Award in AAA Northeast’s Community Traffic Safety Awards Program, Director of Public & Government Affairs, John Corlett announced today. AAA has long recognized communities that make outstanding efforts to make the region’s roads safer for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

The Village was cited for its many traffic safety efforts for 2019 including combined efforts from the Village Planning Board and the Pedestrian Safety & Traffic Calming Committee. Multiple agencies have been working together to advance safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all roadway users, with additional goals to improve driver behavior, attention, courtesy and compliance of traffic laws. The Village also participated in a wide variety of enforcement programs such as Click It or Ticket, Stop DWI and Buckle Up New York and conducted seat belt enforcement checkpoints, all contributing to safer driving. Other Platinum Award winners were the City of New York, the Town of Southold, the Village of Garden City,  the Village of Malverne, and the Village of Monroe.
