#thankapelhamteacher: PEF virtual fundraiser in final push to Sunday wrap up

Editor’s note: This press release was provided by the Pelham Education Foundation.

The Pelham Education Foundation (PEF)  is entering the home stretch of its fall fundraiser but there is still time to make a donation before it wraps up on November 1st.

In lieu of the Pelham Education Foundation’s traditional spring “Blue Ribbon Day” campaign, which was postponed earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the PEF has launched a virtual fundraiser centered around thanking Pelham teachers.

With the “#thankapelhamteacher challenge,” community members are invited to dedicate their donations to the PEF in the name of an inspirational member of the Pelham  teaching community who has in some way, big or small, had an impact on their experience in the Pelham Schools. These dedications are posted to Facebook accounts, along with the opportunity to tag a friend or neighbor, challenging them to continue the momentum of expressing  gratitude. The many tributes that have been shared on social media are a testament to the lasting influence that our remarkable faculty and staff have on Pelham students’ lives.

Says former PEF Board Member, Bob Tracy: “I’m making a donation today as part of the Pelham Education Foundation’s fall fundraiser to #thankapelhamteacher. It truly is too difficult to pick just one teacher to thank, so I will thank three teachers with the same first name, Maria Buckley, Maria Thompson, and Maria Abeshouse. These three Marias brought science, history, and music alive for our daughters, and by their teaching and example inspired them to be the young professional women they are today.”

The virtual fundraiser runs through November 1st, 2020, which is the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Pelham Education Foundation. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded over $2.8 million dollars in grants to support innovations and enhancements to the programs and curriculum in the Pelham schools.
