School board to consider new policy on renaming school facilities at Wednesday meeting
Editor’s note: This press release was provided by the Pelham Union Free School District. This is a corrected version of the notice. The third reading of the policy on student search and interrogation was listed in error in the previous version.
The Pelham Board of Education will meet at 6:30pm on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 in the Pelham Middle School Gym, 28 Franklin Place, Pelham, NY 10803, and is expected to immediately enter into executive session to discuss the employment history of a particular person(s). The Board is expected to reconvene in public session for a regular business meeting at approximately 7:30pm.
Members of the community are welcome to attend the meeting in person. Due to public health concerns, physical in-person attendance by members of the public will be limited to a maximum of 34 individuals. Those who attend in person will have their temperature screened and are required to complete a health screening questionnaire prior to entry. Those in attendance must wear a mask/face covering at all times and maintain physical distance from others. Doors to the Middle School will open at 7:15pm. The meeting can also be viewed on YouTube live. As a reminder, members of the public may always email the Board of Education with their comments.
As part of the regular business meeting, the Board is expected to continue its consideration of a new policy regarding renaming school facilities (Third Reading). This policy will be available for review on BoardDocs as part of the meeting agenda which will be available for viewing 24 hours before the meeting.
In addition to Dr. Champ’s Superintendent’s report, the agenda may include updates from each School Board committee, Finances and Facilities, and the three goal areas of the Strategic Plan: Cultural Competence, Authentic Learning, and the Whole Child.

For your information, this policy was listed on the meeting notification in error. We planned to pass the policy along to other groups for further comment, which we have done. We have not heard back yet but plan to bring the policy back for the third reading after we have resolved all our outstanding questions. All policies are discussed three times at separate meetings and members of the public are encouraged to attend meetings and provide comment, or email directly to the entire BOE or individual members to raise questions or concerns.

I don’t understand the headline. The press release makes no mention of searching students.
