Section 1 low-risk winter sports season delayed to Jan. 4
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association announced that the Section 1 season for low and moderate-risk winter sports has been delayed from Nov. 30 to Jan. 4.
NYSPHSAA previously delayed the start of low and moderate risk winter sports to Nov. 30 due to concerns regarding the spread of Covid-19. These sports include bowling, fencing, gymnastics, skiing, boys swimming and indoor track and field.
Following the increased risk of Covid-19 in certain Westchester communities, the executive committee of Section 1 agreed to delay the start for these sports’ season. The new date to begin the low-risk winter sports season is Jan. 4, the same date in which the high-risk winter sports of basketball, competitive cheer, ice hockey and wrestling are also expected to begin their seasons. In addition, all modified winter sports involved in NYSPHSAA are scheduled to begin on Jan. 19.
Due to Covid-19, winter sports seasons for the 2020-21 school year are subject to change. For more information on how NYSPHSAA is responding to Covid-19, click here.
