Pelham girls soccer beats Mamaroneck 1-0 in quarterfinals upset
The Pelicans upset the Mamaroneck Tigers Thursday with a stunning goal from freshman Laura Shelton off of an Amelia Koff assist in the quarterfinals of the varsity girls soccer playoffs.
Captain Catie Woods is looking forward to continuing their playoff run.
“The win yesterday really set the tone of what we are looking for going forward in the playoffs,” said Woods. “Although everyone thought we were the underdogs, the whole team knew that we had to step up and fight to win for our three missing starters. We are so excited to hopefully make it far into the playoffs.”
The team is hoping to follow in the footsteps of the Pelham Memorial High School field hockey team in winning its division. The Pelicans are now 2-0 in the playoffs after coming in as the sixth seed and will play second seeded Rye in the semifinals this Saturday.
