Monsignor Francis Vincent – March 13

On Saturday, March 13, 2021 Reverend Monsignor Francis Vincent Boyle, Pastor Emeritus of Blessed Sacrament Church on Staten Island, passed away peacefully. He was 91 years old. Monsignor Boyle was born in Manhattan, NY to Frank and Mary Ellen (Kelly) Boyle from County Cavern, Ireland. He and his brother John (Eddy) were raised in St. Francis de Sales on the East Side of New York. Monsignor Boyle attended St. Francis de Sales Elementary School and Cathedral College in Manhattan. Afterwards, he attended St. Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie, Yonkers, NY. He was ordained a priest by Cardinal Spellman on May 28, 1955. He received a Master’s degree in Theology from Manhattan College.

In his first assignment, Monsignor Boyle served as Associate Pastor in St. Malachy’s (the actor’s chapel) Church in Manhattan. Soon after he was appointed Associate Pastor of St. Gabriel’s Parish in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. In 1968, he was appointed to St. Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers, NY, as Procurator, Dean of Students and Professor Homiletics. He remained at Dunwoodie for 11 years until his appointment as Pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Pelham, NY in 1979. He was appointed Pastor of Blessed Sacrament Church on Staten Island in 1991. He retired from there as Pastor Emeritus in July of 2004.

For the last 16 years he has resided at St. John Vianney Residence for Priests in Riverdale, NY. During his retirement he helped out when he was able at Annunciation Church in Crestwood, NY.

Monsignor Boyle is survived by his brother, John Edward, his niece-in-law, Lauren Boyle, his grand-nephew, Lachlan and his grand-niece, Blake. He is predeceased by his sister-in-law, Carmel and his nephew, Stephen.

Monsignor Boyle will be deeply missed by his family, his fellow priests and his beloved parishioners.

Monsignor Boyle will be reposing at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue in Pelham, New York on Wednesday, March 17th from 2-5pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Cardinal Dolan at Holy family Church located at 83 Clove Road in New Rochelle, New York on Thursday March 18th at 10:30am. Interment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Holy Family Parish for the St. John Vianney residence for retired clergy in Riverdale, New York.
