Rotary announces Maggie Klein Scholarships for Excellence in Local Journalism
Editor’s note: This announcement was provided by the Rotary Club of the Pelhams.
Two of Rotary’s six goals, as listed on the rotary.org website, are to “support education” and “grow local communities.”
The Rotary mission: “We provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.”
The Rotary vision statement: “Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.”
In all the communities where Rotary Clubs play such an important role, local newspapers are also institutions that encourage action toward lasting change, that promote integrity and that advance understanding of the importance of education and of how to encourage growth in the community.
The goal of the Maggie Klein Scholarships for Excellence in Local Journalism is to honor two graduating seniors who have demonstrated a serious commitment to covering news in the Town of Pelham as a reporter, editor, photographer or videography for a newspaper, magazine, radio station, cable TV or broadcast outlet or online media, including a website, podcast or blog.
Requirements:
- A 500-word essay describing the applicant’s contributions to local news coverage of the entire Town of Pelham. (This should not be of just a specific school.)
- An interview with the Rotary Club of the Pelhams scholarship committee.
Up to two seniors will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship each year by the committee.
Submit applications to [email protected] The deadline for submissions is April 12.
