Parking lot at Third St. and Fourth Ave. is ‘significant safety risk,’ says Village

Editor’s note: This release was provided by the Village of Pelham.

Dear neighbors,

I hope this message finds you well. Please be advised that Parking Lot 2, the deck located at the corner of 3rd Street and 4th Avenue, will be out of commission for approximately 30 days. In accordance with state law, the Village recently authorized a condition assessment survey of the parking structure. On Monday afternoon, we were informed by our engineers that the structure’s continuing deterioration again poses a significant safety risk. As before, immediate action is required to prevent structural failure. Yesterday, we began evacuating the parking lot and moving permit holders to nearby residential streets, where vehicles will need to be parked until emergency repairs can be made. A map showing the designated parking areas is available at https://www.pelhamgov.com/sites/g/files/vyhlif3661/f/uploads/lot_2_reloc….

In an effort to mitigate the impact on the affected neighborhood, parking restrictions in these areas will only be waived for Parking Lot 2 permit holders. All other parking regulations remain in effect and will be enforced during this period.

As you know, Parking Lot 2 is reaching the end of its useful life and has been a significant drain on Village resources for years. Preparing for its eventual closure is a key component of the plan we developed with Pelham House. Over the summer, we will be conducting a parking study which will help us determine the best way to organize Village parking for shoppers, resident and commercial permit holders, and commuters. These emergency repairs should allow us to utilize the parking deck for at least another year and give us the time we need to create an orderly exit plan.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we conduct this necessary work.

Best,

Chance

Mayor, Village of Pelham NY
