Pelham Art Center establishes new artist club to strengthen artistic community

The Pelham Art Center created its new artist club to provide opportunities for local artists to expand their networks and to bring creators together from all around the area.

The club includes artist circle events six times a year, exhibition opportunities, listings on the art center’s artist directory page and 10% member’s discount on classes and boutique. The cost to be a part of the club is $55 per year.

“This concept grew out of the free series we hosted with Stacy Miller in fall 2020 that was a five-part professional development for artist series,” said Charlotte Mouquin, Pelham Art Center executive director. “Hosting these events made us realize a need for further community among artists in Pelham, lower Westchester, the Hudson Valley and surrounding areas. This concept also grew out of local artists requesting some sort of local critique group to speak further about process, materials, techniques and critical feedback on artwork being produced in artists studios.”

“There are so many artists in our neighborhood, and professional exhibiting artists are not necessarily looking to take classes or workshops at the art center, but there is a great opportunity to strengthen the artist community,” Mouquin said. “The artist club will bring together artists that live near each other and could be unaware of each other. By discussing artistic practices on a regular basis with contemporaries, there is an opportunity for further self development and professionalization as an artist. The artist club will also be a wonderful network for the Pelham Art Center to immediately reach out for some exhibition opportunities such as our annual affordable art exhibition and boutique, public art and pop-up art opportunities. When artists come together to share resources, incredible things can happen.”

The club was starting in a virtual format with hopes that in the near future events will be in person.
