With the Section 1 playoffs beginning last Friday, Pelham Memorial High School saw its boys lacrosse team and softball team both advance into the second round. Both teams had dominant wins in their first-round matchups.

The lacrosse team, the eighth seed, started its playoff run against Westlake High School. The Pelicans prevailed with an overwhelming 11-1 win, after playing Westlake just two days prior. Pelham’s offense was led by sophomore Callum Reen with one goal and three assists and junior Daniel Johnston with two goals and one assist. On the other end of the field, junior Will White and freshman Charlie Zabatta put in strong performances splitting time in goal. White had seven saves and Zabatta followed with four. After the win, Pelham moved on to the second round to play the number one seed Sleepy Hollow on Monday.

The softball team, also an eight seed, started their appearance in the playoffs at home against Our Lady of Lourdes. After a slow start in the first few innings, Pelham pulled ahead to finish the game with a 7-2 victory. Leading the team on the mound was junior pitcher Reagan DiNatale, who had six strikeouts and only gave up two runs on three hits. At the plate, sophomores Allie and Katie Prisco made an impact for Pelham. Allie Prisco went two for three with an RBI, a double and three steals. Katie Prisco had a double and an RBI. Pelham moved on to the next round to face second seed Pearl River on Monday.
