Richard Wingate Sr. – June 13

Richard David Wingate Sr. of Yonkers, New York passed away on June 13th 2021. He was 73 years old. Born in the Bronx to Albert and Alice Wingate, Richie was the eldest child. He was raised in the Bronx and attended Evander Childs High School. As a boy, Richie loved the outdoors and especially fishing on City Island and the piers at Coney Island.

After graduating High School Richie went to work at the Fish Market on Arthur Ave. It was a natural fit for Richie as he loved everything to do with fish and saltwater fishing. Richie would have stayed at the fish market however, he knew he would have to change career if he wanted to raise a family. Richie started his own residential painting company and painted throughout the Bronx and Westchester. In the meantime he continued to fish city Island and fish the reservoirs in New York State.

While Richie loved to fish his true pride and Joy was his wife Lynn and his sons Richard and Michael. He loved spending quality time with family, whether it was during the holidays or out on the boats. Richie made sure to make every moment with his family a memorable one.

After retiring as a painter Richie would once again follow his passion for fishing. He acquired Al’s Tackle shop on Lincoln Avenue, Pelham in 1995. He loved helping experienced and beginner fishermen, telling fishermen’s tails and putting smiles on customers faces. He operated the tackle store right to the very end and was excited when Lynn told him she wanted to keep the store open after he passed.

Richie will be remembered as a funny, loving, dedicated and awesome person. He loved people, especially his family. He was a charmer, especially to his wife whom he loved and adored.

Richie is survived by his wife Lynn, his children, Richard and Michael (Danielle Ponga) Wingate, His sister Marcia (Tony) Bettino, his many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
