A male followed a Pelham Middle School student walking to school and exposed himself to the student “in a sexual way” Wednesday morning, according to an email from Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Champ.

Pelham Manor Police are investigating, as the incident occurred in that village, and the department has a full description of the offender, the statement said, adding, “As this is an active police investigation, we are unable to share any further details.”

The police departments from both of Pelham’s villages were called by school administrators after the student reported the incident.

“It goes without saying that this situation is deeply disturbing, and we are disgusted that a student was subjected to this kind of behavior,” wrote Champ. “Please know that our school counselors and clinicians are available to assist any student in need.”

Police will increase patrols before arrival and after dismissal for the remaining school days, the statement said. Students were encouraged to walk to and from school in small groups and program their cell phones with the number of their police department.
