Minivan crashes into rear of building at 507 Fifth Ave.: no injuries

A minivan crashed into 507 Fifth Ave. on Friday morning, leaving a gaping hole in the building but those in the car and building uninjured, according to the Pelham Professional Firefighters Local 2213 Facebook page.

Pelham Fire Department Engine 5, Ladder 2 and Car 2351 responded to the rear of the structure for “a vehicle into a building,” said the post. Those working in the offices and in the vehicle were checked by firefighters and paramedics from the town fly car and found to be uninjured.

Family Services of Westchester is located in the building.

“New Rochelle Fire Department responded with their collapse unit to shore up the part of the building that was damaged,” said Pelham Fire Chief Robert Benkwitt III. “Pelham Police Department handled the accident investigation.”

The Pelham Building Department was also called to the scene.

“Thank you to our brothers from New Rochelle and Car 2302 (New Rochelle on-duty deputy chief) for their quick response and for their hard work in shoring up the structure to make it safe for repairs,” said the post.
