Rick Scocozza of the Bronx pled guilty Tuesday to second degree attempted burglary after holding a Pelham Manor family at gun point with what turned out to be a BB gun while attempting to burglarize their Jackson Avenue home in 2019, according to a release from Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah.

Scocozza, a persistent violent felony offender, faces a minimum sentence of 12 years to life to a maximum of 25 years to life in state prison.

On Aug. 22, 2019, Scocozza entered the Jackson Avenue home “through the garage and held two members of the household at gun point while demanding they give him money,” said the release. “When Scocozza ordered the victims to take him to a different area of the home to obtain more items, a third member of the household attacked the defendant, causing Scocozza to drop the gun.”

A victim picked up the gun, sprinted from the house, threw it in a nearby bush and called the police while Scocozza was restrained.

“Pelham Manor Police arrested Scocozza and recovered the gun, which they discovered was a BB gun,” said the release.

Scocozza’s backpack was recovered by police and found to contain duct tape, zip ties and a pillowcase. Scocozza was wearing camouflage face paint. He had parked his car near the house, where police found the face paint inside, along with a receipt for it.

“I commend these victims for their bravery in such a frightening situation, and I applaud the work of the Pelham Manor Police Department for acting quickly to get and keep this dangerous person off the street,” said Rocah.

Scocozza is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 11.
