Peter Hickey – Sept. 28

Peter D. Hickey of Pelham Manor, New York passed away on September 28th 2021. He was 85 years old. Born in the Bronx to Denis and Johanna Hickey, Peter was one of four children. He was raised in Throggs Neck where he worked as a newspaper boy while attending St. Frances de Chantal Elementary School. After two years at St. Helena’s High School, Peter graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School. After graduation, Peter would attend Hunter College for one year.

Peter’s first job after college was in construction. He worked as a metal lather before joining Local 147 (Sandhogs) in the Bronx. It was during that time he would meet his wife of 54 years Audrey Baker at a movie theatre in Parkchester while watching Gold Finger. They would later marry at St. Helena’s Church and eventually moved to Pelham Manor in 1978. Peter and Audrey were blessed with four wonderful daughters.

In his spare time Peter loved to go on family vacations to Cape Cod, make an occasional wager on the ponies, play the stock market and read the New York Times. He loved listening to Irish music, swimming at Rocky Beach and going for dinners with his family.

Peter will be remembered as a loving, loyal and generous person. He was very protective of his family and committed to everything he set out to do. He had a wonderful sense of humor and lived life to the fullest. His grandsons were his pride and joy.

Peter is survived by his wife Audrey, his daughters; Johanna (Andrew) Kagel, Tara & Catherine Hickey, his grandchildren Ryan and Connor Kagel, his sister Joan M. Murray (Tom), his sister in law Angela Hickey, his cousin Jimmy Murphy (Joan), and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his daughter Denise C. Hickey, his brother William J. Hickey, his sister Margaret A. Hickey, and his best friend John J. Quigley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church located at 575 Fowler Avenue on Friday October 1st at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery. Donations can be made to Calvary Hospital in loving memory of Peter D. Hickey.
