Adult Book Clubs Continue 2021-22 Season. Newcomers Welcome!

The After-Dark Book Club will meet on Zoom on Thursday, December 2nd, 2021 at 7:30 pm when we will discuss Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. The 2nd-Friday Book Club next meets on Friday, January 14 and we will be reading The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich. To join the discussion write to [email protected]. Crafty Adults on Zoom: Lucky Paper Stars. Monday, December 13, 7:30 to 8:30 pm

We will be making garlands out of lucky paper stars to celebrate all the winter holidays and the winter solstice! Crafty adults is led by artist and Pelhamite Sara Mallach. Please register by clicking here and you will get instructions for picking up materials. Space is limited so sign up early!

Local Author Talk with Jordan Salama on Zoom: Tuesday, January 25, 7 to 8:15 pm

Join us for a book discussion with local author and travel writer Jordan Salama. His debut book, Every Day the River Changes (published in November 2021), is an exhilarating travelogue for a new generation about a journey along Colombia’s Magdalena River, exploring life by the banks of a majestic river now at risk, and how a country recovers from conflict. Jordan Salama’s work has appeared in The New York TimesNational Geographic, and Scientific American. Salama is a 2019 graduate of Princeton University (and Pelham Memorial High School graduate!) Fun Folk Tales: What is Hanukkah and More! Friday, December 3, 3:30 to 4 pm

Join the Library for a special cultural event for children from PreK to 3rd grade and their adults. Enjoy delightful tales, hands-on activities, songs, and learn more about Jewish culture, heritage, and history. Open to all, and a great place to meet neighbors and form friendships. This event will be held outdoors. Please bring a blanket to create social distancing squares. In case of inclement weather, please call ahead. No registration: first come, first serve.

JLP Reads: Outdoor Story Time, Saturday, December 4, 10:15 to 10:45 am

The Pelham Library is thrilled to be partnering with the Junior League of Pelham to bring a series of seven Saturday morning outdoor story times to the community through the JLP Reads program. The program is designed for children aged 4 to 6, but younger children are welcome. Volunteers from the Junior League will be bringing some of their favorite children’s books, as well as child-friendly music, to provide members of the community with fun, engaging experience for their children. The event will be weather permitting, as they will be held outside on the library lawn. Please bring a blanket to create social distancing squares.

Coding for Kids Online! Saturday, December 4, 11, 18, 10:30 am to 12:30 pm

Back by popular demand, our volunteer, Julia, will again be teaching coding languages for kids. The programs will be held most Saturday mornings from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for kids in grades 1 to 5. We will start with learning Scratch the first few weeks then later move to Python. Kids’ Craft Studio: Make Your Own Solstice Sun Catchers, Thursday, December 16, 3:30 to 4:30 pm

Celebrate the changing seasons and bring the light in with the glittery window decorations we’ll be making! For ages 4 and up. This event will be held outdoors. In case of inclement weather, please call ahead. No registration: first come, first serve.

Outdoor Story Time Every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10:15 am

Join us for our popular story time for infants and toddlers with our new librarians Ms. Tasha and Ms. Florence outside on our front lawn. Story time is designed to enhance early literacy skills and features diverse children’s books in which all children can see themselves represented. Please bring a blanket to create social distancing squares. In case of bad weather, the event will be cancelled. Please call the library or check our website that morning. Dress warmly!

The Library would like to wish the community a very happy and healthy holiday season. The library will be closing early on Tuesday, December 14 at 4 p.m. instead of 5 p.m.
