The PMHS boys basketball team will play its first game of the season on Friday with an away match-up against Irvington in an early-season tournament.

New players and improvements made by those returning are going to make this team a real problem for other schools in the section. During the offseason, the boys continued playing, practicing and sharpening their skills for the upcoming season.

“We are all eager to play and make our school proud,” said returning junior Luke Ravitz. “We have new players like Charlie Schellhammer and George Negrin who are very talented and will hopefully help us get to where we need to be.”

Pelham is led by seniors Matteo Johnson, Charlie Gutch, and Garrett Jenkins.

The positive attitude among the players will likely help bring success. “We’ve made a lot of improvements this year, and everyone is fired up, coaches included,” said senior David Atlas. “As a team we’ve grown as well, and chemistry is through the roof.”

Pelham hopes to gain momentum with some early-season hardware. Should they win Friday night, they will take on the winner of Ardsley vs Dobbs Ferry at 7 p.m. Saturday, once again at Irvington High School.
