School board to consider two-week extension of Champ’s family-medical leave

Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Champ

The Pelham Board of Education will hold a special virtual meeting Tuesday at 3 p.m. to consider extending Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Champ’s family-medical leave by two weeks, according to a notice from the Pelham Union Free School District.

Champ began leave on Dec. 1 because her husband was to undergo major surgery because of a benign tumor. She was originally set to return on Jan. 3. Former Superintendent Dr. Dennis Lauro has been serving as acting schools chief.

The hiring of a school nurse is also on the agenda for the special meeting, which will be streamed on YouTube live.

“Anyone wishing to make public comment may do so by sending an email to Board of Education President Jessica DeDomenico by 3 p.m. on Tuesday,” the notice said.

The regular board of education meeting scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled. The trustees will next meet on Jan. 5.
