Norman Pure – Dec. 31

Norman L. Pure, a lifelong resident of Pelham Manor, passed away on December 31st, 2021 at the age of 89. Born in the Bronx, NY to Louis and Emilia Pure, Norman was the eldest of three boys. He moved to Pelham Manor with his family as a young child. He attended Siwanoy Elementary School before graduating from Pelham Memorial High School in 1950. After his graduation, Norman was drafted into the Army and proudly served his country as an X-ray technician. He served in Heidelberg, Germany in the Army of Occupation. He was a graduate of Pace University with a degree in Business.

Norman would meet the love of his life, Louise Maxwell, while in high school when she moved into a house down the street. The couple spent 66 years together. Norman would marry Louise in 1953 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Chapel and they raised their two children in Pelham Manor.

Norman worked in wholesale truck parts distribution for most of his working life, managing the shop at KM Universal in Manhattan and then Brooklyn, then taking to the road doing sales for Joint, Clutch & Gear of New Jersey. He was intellectually curious and in his spare time he loved doing medical research. He held the patent for a non-toxic over-the-counter pain relief. He loved to write about his life experiences. He enjoyed the outdoors and you could find him running, hiking, biking, camping or snow skiing. He was an amateur astronomer from childhood. He was a true sports fan. He also loved tinkering around his home, doing repairs and taking care of anything that needed to be done.

Norman will be remembered as a brilliant, charming and engaging gentleman. He could- and would- talk to anybody about anything. He loved his family and enjoyed gatherings around the family dining table. He had a great zest for life.

Norman is survived by his daughter Kathy (John) Wright and his son Norman (Sallie) Pure. He will be missed by his three grandchildren, triplets Alissa, Emma and Tyler. He is also survived by his brother Kenny, sisters-in-law, and several loving nieces and nephews. Norman is predeceased by his wife Louise, his brother Ronny and his parents Louis and Emilia.
