Update: Picture House stops accepting donations for victims of Bronx fire
Update: “We can’t accept any more donations at the Picture House for the fire victims at this time,” wrote Deborah Winstead in an email. “The receiving entities are overwhelmed and can’t process all the donations.”
The Pelham Picture House began collecting donations midday Sunday for the victims of the deadly Bronx fire.
The blaze at 333 E. 181st St. began around 11 a.m. Sunday and killed a confirmed 19 people, making it the deadliest New York City fire in decades.
In response to the news, donations arrived at the Picture House, with volunteers driving each load to the American Red Cross located at P.S. 391 at 2190 Folin St.
Donations of all kinds are being accepted with most residents bringing pillows, blankets, bottled water and canned foods. The Picture House plans to continue accepting donations through Thursday at a minimum.
