Pelham Memorial High School 2015 graduate Jordan Salama spoke at the Rotary Club of the Pelhams luncheon on Jan. 19 about his new book, “Every Day the River Changes,” a nonfiction account of the people he met while traveling for four weeks along the Magdalena River in Colombia.
A graduate of Princeton, Mr. Salama was awarded the Rotary Club’s scholarship in 2015 and was warmly welcomed by Rotary members at the luncheon who recalled his many accomplishments during his time in Pelham Schools—speaking out against palm oil in snack products as well as hosting a local public access talk show while in high school.
His book, published by Catapult on November 16, 2021, tells the story of the decline of the Magdalena River through interviews with people who live along the river. It was named a Kirkus Reviews Best Book of 2021 and a New York Times Best Travel Book for the 2021 holiday season.
He is a nonfiction writer and journalist whose work appears regularly in the New York Times and National Geographic magazine, among other publications. “Every Day the River Changes” is his first book. He lives in Pelham with his family.
(He is scheduled to speak about the book at a Zoom meeting hosted by the Pelham Town Library on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 7:00pm. To register for the meeting, visit www.pelhamlibrary.org.)
