Pelham girls varsity basketball wins first playoff game
The Pelham girls varsity basketball team defeated John Jay CR 47-34 Thursday in the out-bracket round of the Section 1, Class A, playoffs.
It was all Pelham from the jump. They got to an early lead and stayed in front the rest of the way. The Pelicans were led by junior Grace Dunhill, who had 22 points.
“Playing a home playoff game seemed unlikely with our record,” Dunhill said. “But we came to play, started hot and kept up the momentum.”
Sophomore Mia Orlando contributed to the scoring with 12 points. Junior Katie Prisco also chipped in with six points.
The girls will now advance to the first-round of the playoffs, where they will travel on the road to face one-seeded Tappan Zee.
