Maggie Klein Grand Marshal of 2022 Memorial Day Parade in Pelham

Pelham Post 50, the American Legion proudly announces that Maggie Klein has been chosen as Grand Marshal of the 2022 Memorial Day Parade in recognition of her 30 plus years of outstanding service to the Town of Pelham.

After graduating from the University of California at Berkeley, Maggie began her journalism career with The Associated Press during the Civil Rights Movement (1962-1968) before moving to Reuters, the international news service as Finance Editor, Managing Editor and Vice President of Reuters North America (1968-1990).

Maggie and her husband, Phil, moved to Pelham in 1975 and, when she left Reuters in 1990, realized that Pelham could greatly benefit with a local newspaper. She founded the Pelham Weekly in 1992.

It was an immediate hit! The Weekly covered everything! School, Town and Village Meetings and Departmental happenings; All Pelham sports; Community organizations and fundraisers; current events; a real, old-time community newspaper!

And when people everywhere went digital, so did Maggie – publishing an on-line edition for 4 more years until 2019 when she retired.

In addition to writing, editing and publishing her newspaper, Maggie also served as a Member of the School Board, President of the League of Women’s Voters of Pelham and volunteering at United Hebrew’s Willow Towers assisted living facility where she hosts twice weekly current event discussion groups with the residents.

Maggie has made her mark in Pelham and she will be remembered with great affection for decades to come.

Maggie and her husband have 2 children, Michael Klein and Dawn Klein Casher, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. They now live in New Rochelle, but are often in Pelham and Maggie never misses Pelham’s Memorial Day Parade.

This year she will lead it!!

Pelham Post #50 Salutes you, Maggie!!
