PMHS rugby wins STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Pelham Rugby celebrating after winning the state championship.

PMHS rugby defeated Dwight Academy on Sunday, earning the team its fourth state championship.

The Pelicans got up 40-0 and started putting in subs. Every player on the team was able to get in the game. The final score was 57-12, with almost every senior scoring.

“This is what we prepped for all season, and today showed the work everyone put in,” said Will Otondi, a senior on the team. “There’s no better way to end the season than watching the younger guys play well and have fun alongside us.”

The team has qualified for states in five of the last six seasons. In addition to four state titles, the team captured the regional championship last year when there were no states due to the pandemic.
