September 30, 2022 – Bronxville and Pelham, NYThe Picture House Regional Film Center (www.thepicturehouse.org) announced today that starting Sunday, October 2, they will be offering four classes on German cinema. Film Studies for Adults: Great German Actresses will feature four online discussions led by experts from the faculty at Sarah Lawrence College, with the first class hosted by acclaimed actress and Picture House ambassador Hayley Atwell.

On Sunday, October 2, Ms. Atwell will be joined by Philipp Nielsen, the Adda Bozeman Chair in International Relations at Sarah Lawrence College, to lead a discussion of the Oscar-nominated film Toni Erdmann. Subsequent classes will be taught by Mr. Nielsen or his Sarah Lawrence College colleague Roland Dollinger, who teaches in the German and Literature departments. Classes will discuss Barbara on October 16, Head-On on October 23, and Good Bye Lenin! on October 30. These films were selected due to the powerful performances from leading German actresses featured in each.

Picture House Director of Education Francile Albright said “October is going to be an exciting month as we look in-depth at these four fantastic German films with our knowledgeable instructors, who will bring their insight to the classes. It’s a great opportunity to have very meaningful discussions about film, and for everyone to come away with an enriching experience. It’s always a special treat to have Hayley Atwell share her knowledge and perspective with us, and we’re thrilled to bring in Philipp Nielsen and Roland Dollinger to add their expertise as well. Sarah Lawrence College is our neighbor, and we feel lucky to have two of their distinguished faculty members working with us on this program.”

Each class in Film Studies for Adults: Great German Actresses will take place on a Sunday via Zoom at 11:00 am. The individual dates are October 2, 16, 23, and 30. Classes cost $25 each, and registration can be found at thepicturehouse.org/education/athome

These classes are part of the German Film Festival, which will run at The Picture House from Friday, October 21 – Sunday, October 23.
