Sylvia Derrico – Dec. 1

Sylvia Derrico of Pelham Manor, New York, passed away on December 1st, 2022. She was 95 years Old. Born in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, to Thomas and Rose Rinaldi. Sylvia was one of three children. She had a brother Alphonse and a sister Juliette. Sylvia graduated from St. Brendan Diocesan High School in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, and then attended the Berkeley School of Business. After Business School she worked at the Do More Office Furniture Company at the Graybar Building in Manhattan. Sylvia met Nicholas through her cousin Sylvia who was married to Nicholas’s Uncle Rocky. They would marry and move to Pelham Manor where they raised their three children, Michael, Thomas and Nicholas.

Sylvia will be remembered as a devout Catholic, a loving wife, mother, cousin, and an aunt to 13 nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Sylvia enjoyed traveling with her family, cooking, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. I think one of the things that she enjoyed was watching all of us play together. There were a lot of kids on our block, and we all became friends quickly and still get together a couple of times a year.

Whether it was playing football in the backyard or hockey and stickball in the street, someone always managed to get a bump or a bruise. Our father would stitch them up so we could play again. Our mother always made sure that our friends’ parents knew where their kids were. Just like our father took care of all of you, my mother took care of us.

Sylvia is predeceased by her husband Dr. Nicholas Derrico, her sister Juliette, and her brother Alphonse.
